Sundial Studios Moves to Santa Barbara's Downtown Art District & Gets New Name
Who: New Signed Lease at 28 E. Victoria Street, former business location of, “The Massage Place”. New business called, Santa Barbara Art Works, an artist studio-gallery for people to express themselves, collaborate as a community, and create innovative and diverse works of art. At Santa Barbara Art Works we encourage artists of all skill-levels and abilities to create, show, and sell their work. So often artists must fight through years of discouragement to get to a place where people will display their work. At
Santa Barbara Art Works we make the art process inclusive and “work” for artists of all abilities who desire to create.
Where: 28 E. Victoria Street, next to Peoples’ Self-Help Housing.
When: Grand Opening Show, “Self Portraits”, at Downtown’s “1st Thursday” Event, September 6th, 2018. Time: 5:00 - 8:00PM.
What: Santa Barbara Art Works partners with UCP WORK, Inc. and specializes in helping artists with disabilities through the process of learning by providing art instruction and adaptable art techniques. Classes and workshops are taught five days a week in painting, ceramics, mixed media, and watercolor, to fifteen resident artists with disabilities. Santa Barbara Art Works welcomes people of all abilities to come and collaborate with our resident artists or we also provide artist studio space on a monthly membership plan.
Look for more information about Santa Barbara Art Works Grand Opening Show, “Self Portraits”, where the resident artists will express their stories on canvas. A self-portrait can describe an individual’s personality, their hopes, dreams, desires, history, family, culture, their failures, struggles, triumphs, and tragedies, or simply their expression of creativity. A self-portrait is a powerful way for an individual to express who they are and how they see the world. In this show, we invite the public to get to know the person before their disability.
