Joe is inspired by his faith in God, as he says, “It keeps me going”.  Joe’s favorite accomplishment as an artist has been his sculptures of Jesus praying. He works in many mediums, including papermache and clay and has recently started to learn to paint, which is a challenge for him. Using adaptive art techniques, our art instructors have developed a way for Joe to paint.  

 

Joe uses puffy paint to create raised lines so he can feel the paint lines. He then fills in the areas with texture using pallet knifes and thick mediums.

 

Inspired by the music he sings, Joe has included some hymns of sheet music in his abstract paintings.  He is a singer in a group called the Paradise Jazz Singers of Santa Barbara.
