Erin is all about flowers! She paints flowers, wears flower patterns, and has a flowery personality, blooming with excitement. She is always encouraging her fellow artists and helping out around the studio. Erin takes classes in painting, drawing, mixed media, and jewelry, she does it all! She has created many flower paintings over the past two years and has also completed several landscape paintings after taking the landscape painting workshops. Erin’s artistic process has developed from her quick sketches of flowers to putting down repetitious layers of color, juxtaposed together, creating a feeling of walking through a field of flowers.

Art has always played an important role in Brian’s life. Like most kids, Brian loved to draw and was influenced by Saturday morning cartoons. Upon moving to Santa Barbara in 1984, a roommate introduced Brian to a Stained Glassmaking class at Adult Education. The teacher there told him that due to his disability, he wouldn’t have the strength to physically do this type of work, but he proved him wrong and continued to make stained glass for 30 years. Brian has been an Art Instructor at Santa Barbara Art Works for over three years, teaching watercolor class on Fridays. He says he paints from personal life experiences and his style of work is influenced by a past watercolor teacher, which is the combination of black ink and watercolors.

Chuck’s Creative Process
Chuck has a hard time stabilizing his paintbrushes and other tools. Using adaptive art techniques, his Art Instructors have adapted to Chuck’s abilities and supported him in the application of his poems to canvas. His artwork includes stencil-work and layers of paint that he sometimes applies directly to the canvas with his fingers to create different textures.
Chuck was born and raised in Port Hueneme, California. His mom has been his inspiration all his life and taught him to always have the right attitude. Chuck is a poet and is inspired to write poetry because of a girl from his past. He develops his poems out of personal life experiences, observations, and accomplishments. Chuck is also inspired by his Job Coaches and is grateful for their assistance and motivation toward his artwork.

Artist Bio
John was born in Berkeley, California, and learned to draw from his mother. For John, it’s not all about technique, but more about storytelling. He takes people from different times in his life and juxtaposes them together in a drawing. A person he knew 20 years ago, could be having breakfast with someone he just met yesterday. John is inspired by the people in his life, as well as, seashells, model airplanes, books, jigsaw puzzles, cactus, buildings, and astronomy. For most of John’s life, he drew with crayons, colored pencils, and pens on whatever paper he could find. But over the past two years at the studio, John now paints with watercolor, mixed-media and acrylics. John has taken part in many of our art shows and has sold several art pieces, but again, it’s more about the story behind the drawing for John, than the sale.
Michael Gurney
Michael loves his maintenance job with the Santa Barbara Harbor Crew and frequently incorporates boats and scenes from the harbor into his artwork. Sports and Disney characters are also his favorite subjects to draw. Michael has an exuberant and whimsical style to his artwork that makes people smile. He primarily uses watercolor and markers, which allows a sense of movement in his work. He also paints with acrylics. Michael really enjoys creating art and is happy with every piece he makes. He has sold many pieces the past two years and has been apart of six group art shows. Michael's personality is evident in his work and you can't help but smile when you see one of his delightful pieces.

Whatever is happening in the moment is what inspires Ryan’s art. Ryan has been creating art since he was a child and has worked with many mediums including abstract and landscape paintings, ceramics, sculpture and charcoal. Ryan has been getting into printmaking and is enjoying the process. In the studio Ryan paints fast and works through multiple ideas. He takes a theme and thinks through the different perspectives on how to create it, such as, a close-up of a wave or a seascape. Ryan has been featured in many group art shows over the past two years. When Ryan is not in the studio, he likes volunteering at the local animal shelter.
